The Tales and Travels of Taylor Made PA – Christmas Holidays
Published 13.12.2020
Hello!
Christmas!
Do you like to be at home for the holidays or do you like to travel?
I have never been a huge Christmas fan and have taken the opportunity to spend Christmas overseas with my extended family a number of times over the years. Both in Canada and the summer sunshine of Australia.
Christmas ’93
The first thing I did when I started as a Travel Agent full time after leaving college in the Summer of ’92 was plan a trip to see my family for the Christmas of ’93.
My Nan and her brother decided to come with me, flying our earlier as they had more time, but travelled home with me.
It was the first time I had seen my Uncle and Aunt since they came home for their honeymoon in 1979. It was also the first time I had the opportunity to meet my younger cousins who were 11 and 13 at the time.
Day Tours
I had very kindly been gifted some complimentary day tour passes by AAT Kings and took the opportunity to visit the sites of around Melbourne with my Great Uncle while my Nan spent time with my Uncle.
Penguins on Parade
First stop on the sightseeing tour was The Penguin Parade on Phillip Island. Home of the Little Penguin, where daily they return home the Sea to their nesting boxes in the dunes. During the Lockdown in Melbourne and while they were closed for Business, Phillip Island broadcast the daily ritual live on You Tube. See some of the videos here.
Gold Rush!
For the next stop, we were joined by my Nan and headed north to Ballarat (Home of Strictly Judge Craig Revell-Horwood!), Bendigo and Sovereign Hill. We panned for Gold… and failed. Then headed for the water and a Paddle Steamer along the Murray River at Echuca.
The Start of a Love Affair
One of the days my Uncle took us on a day trip. Giving my Nan the time to spend with the in-laws and for me to see some of the beaches. It was to be the start of a great love affair for me with the most beautiful War Memorial in the World, the stunning Great Ocean Road. Something I will talk about more in a later Blog.
More Visits
I didn’t make it back for Christmas until 2010, to spend Christmas with my cousin and his first baby. It was to begin a new love affair… with Ashes Cricket and I headed back again for this in 2017…. Covid-19 allowing will be back in 2021. Watch this space!
Aussie Specialist
I love selling Australia and creating itineraries both of places I have been and love to recommend and places I cannot wait to see myself. Still on the Wish List is Perth, The Red Centre and The Ghan Train.
I am also an Australian Tourism “Aussie Specialist” Agent.
